Chris Mcsorley will be pleased to hear that his team remains the only NLA team in the 21th century that wins the Spengler cup (Except HC Davos). Canda wins the Spengler cup for the 13th time and was overall the better team in the todays final. Ellerby, Roy, Pyatt and D’Agostini were the goal scorers for Canda and were very important for Canadas win. For Lugano Gregory Hofmann (2×) and Alessandro Chiesa were responsible for the three goals, but unfortunatley it was not enough for the Swiss team to win today.… continue reading
Fribourg managed to start very well into this season, with a big edge over the other teams it seemed to be a swiss champion candidate for this season. But suddenly as a few players got injured in the Fribourg roster and the team started to fall appart. Currently it is in a losing streak of nine (!) games. Due to their edge over the field at the beginning of the season, they are still on sixth place in the standings, but only with a one point edge over Lausanne and Bern.… continue reading
A very unusual thing to see of Rapperswil-Jona Lakers is, seeing them on top of the league standings. Even though this is the NLB. With good reaults and one win over Thurgau with ten goals. The message seems clear, they want to get back into the NLA and this seems possible for them! At the moment they are on the 3rd place in NLB standings and are tied in points with EHC Olten and we all know that in the Playoffs everything is possible.… continue reading
This summer the ZSC Lions managed to get the top prospect for next year’s entry Draft, Auston Matthews to play for them for one season until the Draft of 2016, where he will be most likely the 1st overall pick. But for a long time it wasn’t even sure if he would be able to play for Zurich, as he wasn’t 18 at the beinning of the NLA season. But surprisingly he was given the allowence to play for Zurich, but only after his 18th birthday, which he had on the 17th of September.… continue reading
Last summer there was one major question in the NLA. Who will get Inti Pestoni after the season 15/16, as his contract with Ambri will run out at the end of the season. Or would he stay in Ambri-Piotta?
Now we know that Inti Pestoni is going to change teams. He will be playing for the ZSC Lions from next season onwards. He got a three year contract with Zurich and is expected to have a major inpact into his new team and its performance.… continue reading
The 79th icehockey world championship was hosted by Czech Republic in Prag. It was the only world championship of the former national team coach Glen Hanlon. It wasn’t the most succesful world championship for the Swiss, as they managed to qualify for the quarter-finals with the 4th and last place of the groupe stages to qualify for the quarter-finals. The Swiss national team didn’t manage to surprise the United States in the K.O.- phase and lost that one with 1:3.… continue reading
From the 16th of April until the 26th, Zug and Luzern hosted the U18 world championships and Switzerland managed to get to the semi-finals! After the group stages, Switzerland qualified for the quarter-finals and needed to play Russia in order to advance to the semis. The Swiss national team managed to beat Russia with 5:0 (!). Unfortunatley the Swiss were stopped in the Semis against Finnland and lost the game with 4:5 after Overtime.… continue reading
