NHL report (first 5 games)

Posted on Posted in Allgemein, Swiss in the NHL

The NHL season has begun and it is now time to roll up the first efforts of the Swiss players, playing in the best league of the world. We have checked on the efforts of each Swiss player and his team and have summarized, what you need to know! Who has been playing as expected? Which player has been struggling during the first few games?

Roman Josi
With already five games played, Roman Josi has been confincing us yet again with already one goal scored and three assists given. Nevertheless the Predators have had a bad start into the new season, with only two victories out of these first five games. They are currently ranked on the seventh and last Central division rank of the Western Conference and are looking to improve themselves.

Yannick Weber
The new team-mate of Roman Josi is now playing for the Nashville Predators after his trade from Vancouver! He was able to play during four out of five games for the Preds and has given one assist so far. It is difficult to prove oneself, if you aren’t getting a lot of ice time and this is the problem with Weber at the moment. With eleven minutes of ice time in average, Weber hasn’t got a lot of time to prove himself. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, as he had 15 minutes of ice time during his last game against Pittsburgh!

Kevin Fiala
The 20 year old Kevin Fiala is back, the Winger of Nashville has been playing during the first five games and has already scored two goals! He is already getting a lot of confidence by his coach with an average ice time at around 13 minutes per game. We hope that he will keep his numbers up to continue his season with the Preds.

Nino Niederreiter
Niederreiter’s start into the new season has been acceptable, but still there is a lot to improve for him. With only two assists scored during the first five games, Nino Niederreiter is well below his potential. Even though Niederreiter has had a bad start into the new season, his team, the Minnesota Wild, have been performing well! With three victories and one overtime loss, the Wild have been taking the second spot in the Central division of the Western Conference. This shows us how tight it all is within the NHL standings, the Wild with three victories are far better off than the Predators with two victories!

Luca Sbisa
Unlike his team, Sbisa had an average start into the new season with an even +/- stat and one assist given. His team though had a flying start and is now placed on the first rank of the Pacific Division and this with four victories and only on overtime loss during their first five games!

Sven Bärtschi
Along side Luca Sbisa, the left winger from Vancouver isn’t getting a lot of ice time and has only given one assist so far. We hope that he will be getting more ice time in his near future for a chance to prove his talent!

Mark Streit
The veteran is playing in his last contract year with the Philadelphia Flyers and his hoping to get a new contract soon. With one assist and one goal scored, Streit is playing well for a defenceman! He is helping his team with his experience and this helps the Flyers to maintain the fourth rank in the Metropolitan Division.

Denis Malgin
The Zurich native player, who is currently playing for the Florida Panthers, has scored his first point within his first five games. This is a part of what he needs to stay within the roster of the Panthers for the near future and it will be a difficult task for him to maintain his position within the roster. Most likely he will be sent off into the AHL after the frist few games played, if his stats won’t be increasing over the coming few games.

Mirco Müller, Reto Berra, Sven Andrighetto and Timo Meier haven’t been given a chance yet to play in the NHL this season
