The 22 year old Sven Andrighetto got taken back into the roster of the Montréal Canadiens, after being transferred to their Farm team, the Hamilton Bulldogs at the beginning of January. The native Swiss player from Zurich is in his last year of his current contract with the Canadiens and has played 17 games with the Canadiens and scored 4 goals and one assist in this season. With the farm team he played 26 games and scored 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists). He is one of the least known Swiss NHL players and we want to give you a small overview of his playing career.

Andrighetto began his career with the EHC Dübendorf and transferred to the youth division of the ZSC Lions, where he played for the Elite Novizen. The following year he gave his debut in the NLB and played for the GCK Lions and the EHC Visp. In 2011 he changed to North America to play for the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda in the junior league of Québec (LHJMQ). In his first season with the team from the junior league of Québec he got voted to the 3rd best Rookie scorer of the league, with 74 scorer points. The following year he continued playing for the Huskies and got drafted in 2013 by the Montréal Canadiens in the 3rd round of the Entry Draft. It was his 3rd attempt to get drafted in the NHL entry draft, after he didn’t get selected in the first two Drafts of 2011 and 2012. In his first season with the Canadiens, he had top play for the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) and got promoted into the Canadiens roster in the following season. He gave his NHL Debut on the 6th of December 2014 against the Dallas Stars. In his first game, Andrighetto was the only player of his team to score a goal. At the moment he is in the same situation as last year. He is in the roster of the Canadiens, but doesn’t manage to keep his stats up to stay in the line up and has to play for the Farm team in the AHL from time to time. Overall he has played in 29 NHL games for the Canadiens and scored 6 goals and 2 assists.
We can summarize that Sven Andrighetto has a complicated history in his still young career and due to 3 appearances in the NHL entry draft, we can tell that he is lead by his dream of playing in the NHL. Even though he may never be a regular player for an NHL team, he has fulfilled his dream. He has huge will power, which makes him a valuable, player, who is always willing to go the extra mile to reach his goals. This gives him the potential for a great career in the National League, if he would choose to return to Switzerland after this season.
